This weekend will be a chance for everyone to finish the year with a fun, but challenging, experience. It will also be an opportunity for our cadets to make their own meals, navigate a trail using a compass and GPS, and put their tent & hoochie building skills to good use.  The trail hike will be approximately 3 hrs in duration on Sat and Sun. Cadets need to be well rested when they join us on Fri night, as well as hydrated – bring a 1L+ re-usable water bottle. Cadets need to understand that whatever they bring in, they must bring out, and carry it for the duration of the weekend. Backpacks only with kit – NO suitcases, hockey bags or other bags that cannot be carried on both shoulders through a densely wooded area for a long period of time.

Sign-up for the activity took place last Wednesday – there is still room if your cadet can attend. Please give your name to CI Ruttan on either Monday night or Wednesday at the parade.

Dessert Treats needed for Sat

Just like an FTX, we are asking parents for donations of baked goods for the luncheon following the parade on Sat. Any item as long as it is peanut/nut-free is welcome. Bake or buy – we aren’t picky! Cookies, squares, brownies, or timbits – you decide.  Gluten/dairy-free baking is also welcome (but please LABEL!).

Please label your container with your LAST NAME and either send it to the parade with your cadet on Sat morning at 9am, or bring it with you when you arrive and give it to Mrs. Mehrotra.

Fish Fry Thursday Nights

Level Two Cadets: this is a reminder of your responsibility to our Legion Sponsor to provide the service of two cadets as runners for the Fish Fry on Thursday nights.

This service is a privilege to provide and a lucrative one as well for those level two cadets who participate.

Please ensure you are ON TIME for your shift at 430pm, and at the legion ready to work. Bring your best attitude and make sure that you don’t miss a shift.

If you can’t make it, call another level two cadet or Mrs. Couroux before Thurs night to arrange a change. Don’t drop the ball – you are responsible for your own attendance.

REVISED Tagging Schedule

We still have 8 shifts that need to be filled for the weekend. If you can do an extra one, please call the office or show-up. 905-468-7584

Cadets that were not at the Squadron on Wed were assigned available spots for the weekend. Please CHECK THE REVISED1 SCHEDULE here: Tagging Schedule Apr 2015 REVISED1

Officer staff will be calling your house to make sure you know when your shift is. Maximum participation is required. Don’t cost your parents $75 for not showing up when you are scheduled.

Looking forward to a great weekend of Tagging – don’t forget your PARKA!

Tagging Schedule

Sorry for the late arrival of this post – I’ve been out with Capt Jarrell & CI Lemoine doing a recce for an upcoming Cadet Training Exercise in June. Shhhhh, it’s a secret for now.

Here is the schedule for the TAGGING this weekend Tagging Schedule Apr 2015. Location assignments are subject to change – the Staff member working the chalk board at the Sqn office will assign/re-assign as they see fit.

PARENTS – if you are driving cadets, please show your VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE and PROOF OF INSURANCE to the Staff member before leaving with the cadets. They will also need your cell phone number. This is DND policy. Thank you.

CADETS: remember to smile and be polite. Dress is C-2 with PARKA as the wind is coooollllddd.

TAGGING next wknd

Please take a look at the website before Wed 22 Apr 15 to familiarize yourself with the tagging times for the wknd.

There are four shifts available: each cadet is expected to do two.  PARENTS: If your cadet does not participate, the $75.00 cheque will be cashed. Robotics competitions, family vacations and school work may prevent them from participating – but the cheque will still be cashed. We need maximum participation. This fundraising pays the rent for our building and our Familiarization flying time. Please ensure your cadet does their part.

FRI: 5pm-8pm

SAT: 9am-1pm

SAT: 12pm-4pm

SUN: 12pm-4pm

Duty Officer is listed for each day. Cadets are to report to this officer upon arrival. Parents please let them know if you can drive cadets to/from their location. As per the our Tagging Guidelines: 809 Newark Sqn Tagging Guidelines one staff member will be at the Squadron Office for the duration of the shift. They will deal with any emergencies that arise. Two Sponsoring Committee Members will be assigned per shift to cover the Outlet Mall and to drive between the other locations to periodically check on cadets. Each cadet will have the Sqn Office Phone # 905-468-7584 to call if they encounter a problem. Parents are needed to drive cadets out and bring them back from each shift.

QUESTIONS? email: tammypalumbo@yahoo.ca or come in to the office on Monday or Wednesday.

Wednesday will be a great night with both a CO’s parade and a visit from a former cadet. We are delighted that Wade MacPherson, Primary Care Paramedic – former Cadet Squadron Commander of 809 Sqn – will be joining us. Let’s show him how fantastic those uniforms can look!

NAG DRILL COMP 11 Apr 15

We are hosting the NAG Drill Competition & Turkey Shoot tomorrow at our LHQ.

DRILL TEAM MEMBERS: please note there has been a time change. The day is now starting at 9AM. Everyone is expected to be at the LHQ no later than 915am in order to be on parade for the opening ceremonies. We will be finished for the day at 4pm.

Here is the revised schedule: ANNEX A NAG Drill Comp Schedule 2015

For an idea of who is doing what, you can read the OP ORDER for the Comp here: op order drill comp 2015

Don’t forget: bring your own lunch; canteen will be available. Bring your uniform on a hanger. Bring your polishing kit. We are Team #7 – so we’ll be on at approx 2pm for inspection, followed immediately by our performance. Tell your parents to come see!

BEST OF LUCK! I am so excited to see how much you have improved this year.

Sponsor Appreciation Tonight

PARENTS: Please join us during closing parade for our Sponsor Appreciation beginning at 855pm. We will be enjoying cupcakes and drinks to celebrate all the fantastic opportunities that our Squadron Sponsoring Committee create for your cadets, through their time, effort and dedication to our squadron.

My apologies for the mis-communication this morning regarding the March Break Trip parent meeting next Wed (I shouldn’t attempt to post before the kids go to school). We have changed the time of the meeting though, to 815pm on Wed Mar 11th, to better accommodate pick-up of your cadet and avoid waiting around after drop-off. In an effort to reduce the number of times you are required and/or requested to attend various parade night functions, the parent meeting originally scheduled at the end of the month has been cancelled (and deleted from the calendar). Thank you for your understanding.
