NAG Drill Competition – Inclement Weather – Update

Looking at the latest Environment Canada forecast, although the warning is for the afternoon, freezing rain is expected to begin in the morning. I don’t want to cancel the competition, but in the interest of cadet safety, I don’t really have any other choice. Stay home, be safe, and we’ll review our options for another possible date.

NAG Drill Competition – Inclement Weather

Good evening.

As I’m sure you’re aware, the Niagara Region is under a freezing rain warning with a high probability of this turning into an ice storm. I have received a call from one CO about travel concerns already and have put out a call to the NAG COs asking if any of them have similar considerations. I will be reviewing the responses, will check the weather forecast again at approximately 0600h (6:00am), and will make a final call about whether the competition will proceed at this point. Please be sure to check your email and the web site for updates.

NAG Drill Competition this Saturday

What: NAG Drill Competition 2018

When: This Saturday, 14 Apr 2018. Be there no later than 0815h (8:15am) and be prepared to stay until about 1600h (4:00pm).

Where: 809 Newark HQ, Royal Elite International Academy, 1975 Niagara Stone Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0. Cadets may enter via the front doors or the south parking lot entrance. Spectators are asked to park in the south parking lot and come in the south parking lot entrance. A rough map of the event can be found at the following link.

Annex B – Map

Dress: C2. Do not wear medals as these are C1 items and will count against you at uniform inspection. Come in your civilian clothes, 809 spirit wear if you have it and bring your uniform on a hanger with your boots and wedge.

When: Plan to arrive at 0815h (8:15am) for opening parade at 0830h (8:30am). Uniform inspections begin at 0845h (8:45am) and the first team will be on the parade square at 0900h (9:00am). For parents who wish to come in and see our team shine, we are team four (4), will be doing uniform inspection at 1015h (10:15am) and will hit the parade square at 1000h (10:00am).

Notes:

Bring in your shoe shining kit and a lint brush if you have one. A bit of final polishing and preparation can make all the difference when it comes to uniform inspection.

Bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. We have water on site, but will not be providing disposable bottles.

There will also be a canteen and 809’s SSC will be selling pizza for lunch as well.

Bring in something to do as there will be free time.

During free time, take the opportunity to watch the other teams during their routines. There’s a lot to be learned by observing how others do things.

Good luck!

809 DRILL TEAM IS VICTORIOUS!

Congratulations to FSgt Zalepa (2nd overall for Commander) and our 809 Squadron Drill Team without Arms for placing 1st in the Niagara Air Group Band & Drill Team Competition today.

Well done! We can’t wait to see you compete next month at the Western Ontario Area Band & Drill Competition in London.
