NAG Sports Competition – Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, we’re off to the annual NAG Sports Competition. We will be competing in two of the sports: handball and soccer. We may be able to field a crew for volleyball, but that depends on scheduling.

All participating cadets are expected to arrive at the front doors of 809 Squadron HQ (REIA) at 0615 (6:15am) and a departure of 0630 (6:30am).

Pick-up will be from the same location at approximately 1730 (5:30pm).

Bring the following: HEALTH CARD (nobody boards the bus without one), water bottle, backpack to hold extra clothes (come dressed in your 809 Squadron t-shirt, shorts, socks and running shoes with long pants/sweater overtop), snack and any reading material, card game, &c to pass the time between games. Your belongings will be left unattended at times, so do NOT bring anything that you would not want to lose.

Parents are welcome to come and watch: we will be competing in Dunnville at the High School located at 110 Helena Street.

Lunch (pulled pork on a bun and salad) will be provided for all participants. There will be a canteen as well, so bring $5 for that if you want to partake.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!

NAG Sports Competition – 809 Volleyball Champions!

Our Handball team met their match with 87 Eagle Squadron from Welland – the eventual winners of the Handball trophy. They fought hard – well done 809! Team Captain WOII Giansante, WOI Lavoie, FSgt Griffin, Sgt Couroux, FCpl Gowans, FCpl Nicolescu, Cpl Abt, Cpl Miele & Cpl Voogt.

The day was interrupted for an impromptu selfie with LCol Evans and CWO Hill (from Regional Cadet Support Unit Central in Borden). LCol Evans commented on our 809 T-shirts (well done CI Thiffault!) and said she would like one as well – we will send her and CWO Hill their very own this week.

Our volleyball team remained undefeated for the ENTIRE day – until the championship match against 62A. You can imagine our distress when it came down to a tie-breaker. At one point 62A was up 6-0 then 16-8. But our team pulled together and tied it up to 18-18! A final two serves and we were victorious! And there was much rejoicing.

Team Captain FSgt Lett, FSgt Zalepa, FCpl Lett, Cpl Bell and Cpl Hill accept the NAG Volleyball trophy for 1st place.(missing from the photo: Sgt Carbone & Cpl Milana)

CONGRATULATIONS to all our players. It was a great day – hope you’re getting some rest today!

NAG Sports Competition – TOMORROW!!!

Tomorrow – Sat 28 Jan 2017 – is our Annual NAG Sports Competition. We will be competing in two of the three sports (Volleyball and Handball).

All cadets are expected to arrive at the 128 Sqn Trinity Church Hall 0650am

tomorrow morning. Pick up will be from the same place at approximately 515pm.

Google map link here: 128 Sqn @ Trinity Church 15 Pine St S Thorold

BRING: water bottle, backpack – to hold your extra clothes (come dressed in 809 Sqn T-shirt, shorts, socks and running shoes with long pants/sweater overtop), snack and any reading material, card game, etc to pass the time between games. DO NOT bring anything you would be devastated to lose.

Parents are welcome to spectate: we will be competing in Dunnville at the High School located at 110 Helena St Dunnville.

Lunch is provided for all participants (beef on a bun + salad). There will be a canteen – bring $5 max.

Do you need a ride to the bus pick up?? Call Capt Palumbo 289-783-1942 BEFORE 615am on Sat.

Monday Night Training

Don’t forget:

Drill Team 7-8pm wear your drill boots & wedge with civilian clothing. Everyone needs to be out so we can really get the details down in the silent routine (Capt Palumbo will be coming for a preview).

SPORTS 8-9pm for ALL Cadets participating at the Sports competition this coming Sat, the 28th in Dunnville. DRESS IS SPORTS CLOTHING – no jeans. Running shoes required. FYI: Capt Palumbo *might* have challenged (read taunted) 62 Sqn at the NAG mtg last week. SO we need you out to defend our previous titles! And volleyball members: bad news, this year the rules will not change. Good news: next year they will be updated – thx to all who sent in your input.

There will be NO other training taking place on Monday night – the classrooms will be closed.

THANK YOU to all who helped out at the NOTL Ice Wine Festival tonight – we were in and out within 30 mins. Many hands truly makes light work – attendance was recorded.

Monday Night Trg & NAG Sports Competition

Tonight is the beginning of our new Monday night format.

Drill will be taking place between 7-8pm in the gymnasium as usual. Wear civilian clothing, but bring your parade boots and wedge. Everyone needs to be out – we’re down to crunch time for the silent routine. We only have 9 more practices until the NAG Drill Competition in April.

From 8-9pm will be our first sports practice to get us ready for the NAG Sports Competition at the end of the month (Sat 28th of Jan).  WE NEED EVERY SINGLE CADET to participate on a team. We can bring 21 cadets for the day – that’s all of us! – so come out tonight and find a team that best suits your particular talents.

The sports are: volleyball, hand ball and indoor soccer. We need a minimum of 5 players on each team. It would be better if we had two subs as well – especially for soccer! There are age restrictions, and general competition rules – we’ll talk about it all tonight. WOI Lavoie & WOII Giansante will be helping Capt Palumbo run the practice. Come out ready to play right at 8pm – gym shorts (NO jeans), t-shirts and running shoes required. Wear your 809Sqn tshirt – or bring it at 7pm to get the paint touched up and ready for the comp (that’s what we wear on competition day – do you need your last name added? Bring it on Wed for CI Thiffault to work her magic).

For this Monday night there will be NO other training taking place. The classrooms will be closed/off-limits and all cadets will be in the gymnasium.

Drill Team, Sports, Effective Speaking & MRB

Don’t forget: Drill Team 7-8 pm (dress civilian with parade boots and wedge)

Sports 8-9pm

Effective Speaking 8-9pm

MRB (Merit Review Board) for our FSgts – 7pm start. Should be done by 930pm. Dress is C-1 no whites. We will be conducting them with 126 and 128 squadron cadets as well. Please be welcoming – candidates can wait in classroom #1. Interviews will be in the Sponsor Room.

Return from NAG Sports Competition

The NAG Sports Competition is over and we’re on our way back to 809 Squadron HQ. ETA is 1750h (5:50pm), give or take a few minutes.

The cadets put in an excellent effort and showed exemplary sportsmanship, scoring second place in both handball and volleyball. They also scored 4th place in soccer – with one less player on the court!

In addition, our teams placed second for the overall competition. WOOHOO!

They have every reason to be as proud of themselves as we are of them.

Well done!
