We still need a few cadets for tomorrow evening – 5pm at the Clock Tower in NOTL. To help with the tear down of the Ice Wine Festival.
PARENTS can help too – bring your cadet for an hour and lend a hand. All helpers are appreciated (but only the cadets will get official volunteer hours for school).
Send a msg to Capt Palumbo – tammypalumbo@yahoo.ca or 289-783-1942 if you can come out. Thank you in advance!
We need 5 cadets to volunteer an hour of their time on Sunday, January 22nd at 5pm.
Meet at the clock tower downtown. Dress is civilian with cadet toques. Dress appropriate for the weather – we will be outside.
Time will count toward high school volunteer hour requirements. CI Thiffault will meet you at the clock tower and take attendance.
SEND YOUR AVAILABILITY TO CAPT PALUMBO via text msg – 289-783-1942. Include your last name. Thx!
All day NAG SPORTS COMPETITION SAT 28th of JAN. NEW TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION:
Bus leaves promptly at 7am from the THOROLD SQUADRON LHQ – at Trinity United Church in Thorold. Google map link here: 128 Sqn LHQ.
It takes about 20 mins to get to Thorold from our LHQ – plan your travel accordingly. We do NOT have a bus leaving from 809 – carpool to Thorold is the best we can do (better than parent drivers to Dunnville). Pick up will be at 515pm in Thorold.
If you are having trouble finding a ride to/from Thorold, please let Capt Palumbo know TONIGHT so we can make suitable arrangments.
Bring everything you need for a day of sports. Backpack, music, book, snack.
3 teams – volleyball, handball, soccer. 5-7 players per team. Max 21 cadets. Lunch is provided.
Duty Officer
CI Thiffault for CI Ruttan
REMEMBER: Canteen will be run by FSgts Lett & Zalepa. No other cadets are to ask for the canteen box or access the food. This is a leadership tasking requiring your assistance: let them do what they know they need to do.

We had an awesome first practice for NAG Sports Competition: thanks to our team captains and members. We have our next practice on MONDAY NIGHT: immediately following Drill team. 8-9pm in the gymnasium. There will be NO other trg at that time. ALL cadets on the sports teams are expected to attend.

Tonight is the beginning of our new Monday night format.
Drill will be taking place between 7-8pm in the gymnasium as usual. Wear civilian clothing, but bring your parade boots and wedge. Everyone needs to be out – we’re down to crunch time for the silent routine. We only have 9 more practices until the NAG Drill Competition in April.
From 8-9pm will be our first sports practice to get us ready for the NAG Sports Competition at the end of the month (Sat 28th of Jan). WE NEED EVERY SINGLE CADET to participate on a team. We can bring 21 cadets for the day – that’s all of us! – so come out tonight and find a team that best suits your particular talents.
The sports are: volleyball, hand ball and indoor soccer. We need a minimum of 5 players on each team. It would be better if we had two subs as well – especially for soccer! There are age restrictions, and general competition rules – we’ll talk about it all tonight. WOI Lavoie & WOII Giansante will be helping Capt Palumbo run the practice. Come out ready to play right at 8pm – gym shorts (NO jeans), t-shirts and running shoes required. Wear your 809Sqn tshirt – or bring it at 7pm to get the paint touched up and ready for the comp (that’s what we wear on competition day – do you need your last name added? Bring it on Wed for CI Thiffault to work her magic).
For this Monday night there will be NO other training taking place. The classrooms will be closed/off-limits and all cadets will be in the gymnasium.
We are slowly getting closer to our amazing trip coming up in October. Parents are reminded that payments are due the first Wed of each month between now and September.
Post-dated cheques are recommended so that you don’t miss a week – and to spread out the cost more evenly. Cash is also accepted if you prefer. The money MUST be given to Mrs. Lett – our Sqn Treasurer – it cannot be left in the office. She will be out this Wed to accept payments at the beginning and end of the training night.
Fundraising opportunities will be discussed at the March Parent Meeting for the Vimy trip – the last Wed in March. Before that meeting, members of the Sponsoring Committee will be contacting each family to solicit interest in organizing a fundraising event/campaign. Please let them know your availability/area of expertise to help plan and run what will reduce the cost of the trip for each family.
For those of you who have been waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for the information on registering for the Duke of Edinburgh International Award program, I’ve updated our web site to include all of the necessary details at our Duke of Edinburgh International Award page.
I will also be marking any training that contributes to the award to make things easier to track.
If you have any questions, please come speak to me on Monday night and I’ll be happy to address them.
