NOTL Christmas Parade

There are two important timings for the parade this weekend:

FRI 9 DEC @ 130pm – Parent helpers meet at CI & Mr. Ruttan’s house (across the road from the old NDSS on East & West Line), at 130pm to set-up the parade float. We anticipate the whole process will take approximately 1 hr – we have 4 people confirmed. 2 more would be ideal.

SAT 10 DEC @1015am – BRANCH 124 LEGION parking lot – all cadets to meet in their uniforms. Cadets are expected to attend and be a part of the marching unit. Give yourself extra time to get there on Sat morn – roads will already be closed off for parade access along Mary & Mississauga Sts at 10am.

The parade begins at 11am – but we need cadets out at our spot along the parade route by 1030am at the latest. We are #24. We anticipate we will be finished by 130pm. We will meet back at the Legion once we have completed the parade route. Please arrange to pick up your cadet there.

Dress is UNIFORM for all cadets (C3 – sweater, with parka, black gloves and toque). For select senior cadets dress will be as directed on Wed night. It will be COLD – wear clothing under your uniform as appropriate to keep warm.

This is an important event that gives the community of NOTL a sneak peak into the amazing program we call Air Cadets – please ensure our success by having your cadet attend.

Remembrance Day Breakfast Volunteers Needed

Parents/Guardians we need your help!

Please see the attached request list for donations of food for the cadets’ breakfast and mid-day snack on Friday before/after the parade: sign-up-for-remembrance-day Breakfast begins at 615am. All items can be brought in on Thurs night, or Fri morning. Please RSVP what you’ll be bringing to Mrs Mehrotra at n_mehrotra@hotmail.com .

The items on the list as well as any other food (hot, delicious casserole dish – Giansante) that you may want to bring would also be welcome.  🙂 All peanut/nut free please.

We need PARENT DRIVERS – to drive our cadets to and from the parade site (Clock Tower in Old Town) beginning at 645am on Fri, in 30 min intervals, right up until the parade starts at 1030. If you can help, please give your name to Capt Palumbo when you drop off your cadet on Thursday night for the beginning of the Vigil.

Dress for FRIDAY for our cadets is C-1 (with overcoat and black gloves). For Thursday night it is appropriate civilian attire. If your cadet hasn’t finished their 809 Sqn Tshirt, Thurs night will be the perfect time to do so.

Thank you for your generous support of our Cadets!

Bravo Zulu

Bravo Zulu, also referred to as “BZ,” is a naval signal, typically conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning “Well Done”; it has also been used as part of vernacular slang within NATO and other Allied naval forces. – Wikipedia.

A BIG BZ to WOII Lavoie, FSgt Giansante, FSgt Lett & FSgt Zalepa for participating in our Town Council Delegation on Monday night. They certainly represented all that we aspire to in the Air Cadet Program: speaking with confidence, enthusiasm and a genuine love for everything they have accomplished in our Squadron.

Thank you for giving our Town Council a glimpse into what the Air Cadet Program can do for the Youth of NOTL!

Monday Night Activities

Tonight we have our standard: Drill Team practice 7-8pm and Sports 8-9pm. Both at the Squadron Headquarters (LHQ). Dress for both is civilian – with parade boots and wedge required for drill team. Running shoes required for sports. We need more people on the drill team – come on out!

We also have the senior cadets (WOII & FSgts) presenting a delegation to the Niagara On The Lake Town Council on behalf of 809 Squadron.  Please join me in wishing them all the best as they help to put 809 Squadron on the agenda of our Lord Mayor and Town Council. Dress for this is C-1 with medals. I will bring the medals with me for those who have not received them.

Former 128 Squadron Air Cadet now Snowbird Pilot!

http://www.niagarathisweek.com/community-story/6857073-it-s-a-dream-come-true-for-st-catharines-own-snowbird/#.V-R_rLS1BMw.facebook

Check out this amazing article about the visit the Snowbirds paid to NOTL last week.

“t’s a dream come true for the pilot, who recalled climbing to the top of Brock Hill as a child to watch the planes fly overhead. He joined the 128 Thorold Flying Dragons Air Cadet Squadron where he earned both his glider and pilot’s licence. In 2002 he joined the military and graduated from the Royal Military Collect in 2006. Since then he has served at the Joint Task Force North Headquarters, and as a flying instructor with 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School.”

Bravo Zulu!

A huge thank you to Lt Russell and the following cadets: Giansante, Gowans, Mehrotra, & Nicolescu, for representing 809 Sqn at the Decoration Day Parade in NOTL on Sunday for our title sponsor, Branch 124 Royal Canadian Legion.

By making yourselves available, you gave better visibility to our community about the many aspects of Cadet training: one of the most important being community service.

Cadets: please be sure to see Capt Palumbo to get signed off on your community service hours for high school requirement.
