Good morning.

We’ve received itineraries for cadets travelling to CTC Trenton next weekend and have sent them out. We’re still waiting on itineraries for the other centres, but expect to have them by the end of the day.

OCdt Eric Nicolescu

For the third year running, one of 809’s graduating cadets has made the decision to join the Canadian Armed Forces and attend Royal Military College. Congratulations to OCdt Eric Nicolescu on taking the first step to an exciting career! He will be undertaking studies toward a Bachelor of Science degree to support his role as a Signals Officer. #809Immortal #HatTrick

Community Volunteering Opportunity

Mr. Abt has asked me to post this call to action to all cadets and parents. We’re now in our summer stand-down period and so this will not be organized as a cadet activity. It is being presented as an individual volunteering opportunity to make a difference in your community and we encourage everyone to offer their time and effort wherever possible. Please contact Mr. Abt for further information.

A Call to Action

Friday, May 31st there was a town meeting at the community centre to inform residents of the impending impact of the Niagara Rivers rising water levels.

The presentation and information were excellent and the town is going to great measures to supplement their 2017 efforts to reduce shoreline erosion and the impact of high water on city services.

2019 is expected to see higher water levels than 2017 which is tremendously worrisome. While the towns response plan seems well thought out and implementation is ongoing to protect large areas of Old Town from flooding there is still a pocket of concern for residents.

The area of the greatest threat of personal property damage is also an area where the average age is very high. We are endeavouring to be a part of the solution and lend our hands in the effort. We would not be working for or with the town on major or critical infrastructure projects but we would like to make our hands available to some elderly residents for sandbagging their personal properties. This is not an “official” Air Cadet project, it is a strictly personal volunteer effort. That being said the newspapers are very interested in covering any activity we might have in supporting this effort.

We don’t need anything other than an indication of your willingness to help out at this time. We are organizing through the town office a list of residents that need help and will get in touch with our volunteer group to take action. The high water mark is expected to be hit by the middle of June 14-20th so the majority of our efforts would be focused in the next couple of weeks.

To join us please send me your preferred contact method and number of people in your household that are willing to help. Again this is a community self-help project (neighbours helping neighbours) so it is not limited to cadets…friends and families are certainly welcome to join.

With our best foot forward…

Seniors Trip 2019

Good Day All,
Just a reminder; If you’re participating in the Senior’s trip this year, we will be at the LHQ tonight to work on pulling squadron kit and packing the trailer.  Please join us as we have a battle ahead of us trying to sort out the Sea Can supply situation.

We will work out trip muster point and timing then.

CO’s Message

The Awards Banquet and ACR are behind us. Congratulations to all of the cadets on an exemplary performance this year. Now we’re down to only one night, where we do our level promotions and turn the squadron over to a new Cadet Squadron Commander.

While the cadets are preparing for the Change of Command ceremony at 20:15 (8:15pm), I’ll be conducting a parent briefing (or review in many cases) of what to expect for summer training at 19:00 (7:00pm). If your cadet signed up for summer training, come to the briefing so that you have all of the necessary information for that moment that a last-minute offer comes through.

We still have three spots remaining for the Canada’s Wonderland trip on Sunday. If you’re thinking of going, there’s no better time than now to sign up!

Remember that you need to be logged into the site to see sign-up sheets.

See you on Wednesday!

809 Gets in a Great Day of Gliding

WOW!  Couldn’t ask for a better day for gliding.  10 cadets from 809 Sqn, along with cadets from 79 Sqn in Port Colborne, journeyed up to the Central Niagara Airport for a morning of flying.  When not flying, cadets participated as members of the ground crew.  As an added bonus, we watched skydivers throughout the morning and also had a visit by a Piper Cub in USAF D-Day colours.  What a great way to end off a busy weekend.
