From this week’s The Lake Report!
Well done!
UCDSB is once again offering the Summer Cadet Co-op program where cadets who are attending CTC course in Ontario will be able to earn up to 2 high school credits!
Please note- cadets attending CAP, or CTC out of the province of Ontario will not qualify for the program.
For more details, and for registrations forms etc, please follow this link: Summer Semester Cadet COOP – Upper Canada District School Board (ucdsb.on.ca)
Cadets must already have obtained at least one high school credit to apply.
Most importantly– Although UCDSB is running this program, it is open to all cadets who reside in Ontario, and who will be attending a CTC course in Ontario. Cadets do not need to be students of UCDSB. Cadets remain students of their own board!

CO’s Message
Good evening!
Well, here goes my first WRO. Let’s see how it goes.
After all the excitement of last week, were starting to wind things down and head into summer shut down. However, we still have one item left on the board, Saturday’s bottle drive.
After the bottle drive, we’ll be on summer shutdown. There will be no further squadron activities until Wednesday, September 7 (the first Wednesday after Labour Day).
To the Cadets attending summer training, good luck on your courses and have fun. We know you’ll do 809 Squadron proud.
Bottle Drive:
The bottle drive is an important fundraiser for 809 squadron. The bulk of the money we raise comes from initiative. This is where we get the money to attend special events like the Top Gun Maverick showing, and the Cadet Day at Canada’s Wonderland. It’s also where we get the money for training activities like FTX’s and flying. Most of all, it is what keeps us operating as a squadron and pays for our headquarters. Without the fundraising, we wouldn’t be able to run the program.
Because of it’s importance, we’re requesting that all cadets attend. We’re also requesting parents/guardians participate as well. We’ll need help sorting bottles, picking up bottles at off-site locations, and to help at pick up locations. Bring your trucks and cargo trailers if you can.
Here’s the info:
Where: VanNoorts (Corner of Hunter Rd & 4 Mile Creek Rd, Niagara On The Lake)
Time: Saturday, June 04, 0830 (8:30am) – Approx 1400 (2pm)
Who: All cadets, staff, SSC & Parents
This is considered a mandatory activity. If you cannot attend, please call the squadron to advise of your absence.
Make sure all attendees complete registration as usual.
Mr. Abt will be in charge of the event, with Capt Lemoine supervising. I won’t be around as I’m heading off to Trenton for my Air Environmental Training Course (AETC for short).
This is some additional information from Mr Abt’s post on our Facebook page:
All attendees must complete the Ontario COVID-19 School Screening form and check in for all in-person activities using the Registration for In-Person Events form. Cadets must complete the school screening as students. Staff must complete the school screening as employees. Confirmation should be emailed to the squadron email box.

CO’s Message
Good evening!
This is it! We’re down to our final night of the training year. Wednesday night, is our ACR/Awards/CoC night. Dress will be C1A so make sure your unicorns are properly prepared, your boots are polished, and your at your very best. Make sure that you invite your parents/guardians and come hungry. The SSC has arranged food for the evening.
We’re still under standard COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures, which don’t allow non cadets/staff in the building itself, so we’ll be holding the event outdoors rain or shine.
On Thursday, we have a private screening of the new “Top Gun: Maverick” film at Landmark Cinemas at the Pen Centre. Dress will be C3B and you need to find your way to the cinema by 1730 (5:30pm). The cost of the event has been covered by our more than generous SSC, so take the opportunity to thank them on Wednesday.
We have the go-ahead to go to Cadet Day at Canada’s Wonderland on the 28th. We’ll be finalizing numbers and travel arrangements as soon as possible, so we need to know if you’re coming or not as soon as possible.
I have received only two responses in our Cadets365 migration. For those cadets who have not replied, please review the previous post on the topic.
Finally, this will be my last CO’s message as the role of Commanding Officer will be turned over to Lt Couroux on Wednesday. To the cadets, parents/guardians, staff, and SSC members, I’ve had the privilege of working with over these last five years, thank you. If I don’t get the opportunity to speak to you in person, know that I place immense value in what we’ve accomplished together and have the utmost confidence in Lt Couroux’ commitment and capabilities as my successor.

Good morning.
Over the next little bit, we’ll be migrating all cadet and staff Google Workspace accounts to the new Cadets365 platform. During the period where we had to shift to virtual training, the Google Workspace platform served us well, but the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers organization will be conducting all activities over Cadets365 and the move is necessary.
I’ll be working with Lt Russell to provide access details and credentials to each cadet. Once we have verified that cadets can successfully connect to their Cadets365 account, we’ll forward all 809cadets.ca email and eventually retire the 809cadets.ca accounts.
In the meantime, if any cadets currently have access to operational Cadets365 accounts, email Lt Russell and myself so that we can forward your 809cadets.ca email and strike you off of our migration list.

CO’s Message
Good morning!
In preparation for our outing to see the new “Top Gun: Maverick” film next Thursday, we’ll be showing the original “Top Gun” film tonight. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a classic for Air Cadets and was responsible for many cadets joining our program when it came out. Everyone wanted to be Maverick… and if you don’t know who he is, you need to come out tonight to find out. Canteen will be open and popcorn will be served.
Wednesday night, we’re in final preparations for our ACR/Awards/CoC night next week. Dress will be C3 dress for the evening.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone tonight and on Wednesday!
SWO’s Message
Hello cadets! It’s our last week before our annual ceremonial review which mean we need to get prepared. Remember to keep working on your uniforms for this Wednesday and get ready for some learning. We’re going to be teaching you all you need to know to prepare for our final parade of the year. I hope to see you all on Monday and Wednesday.
