Summer Training Reminder

Good Afternoon All,

We would like to remind you that all cadets MUST have the signed Offer of Participation in their possession in order to attend their course.  Cadets need them if they are being dropped off by a parent and they will not be allowed on their bus if they do not have them in their possession.

Last year there was some leniency with this but this year the cadets will not be boarding the bus without it.

Thank you, and have a great weekend.

Canada Day

Thank you to all of the cadets who made it out to the Canada Day celebrations in the Old Town.

The rotary club was very appreciative — Ms. de Laat of the Rotary Youth Committee has asked me to pass on her comments that the participating cadets “are a delight to work with and present themselves in a very polite and professional way.” Great job representing 809 in our community!

For those of who are filling out forms for volunteer hours at school, please reference myself and my jody.lemoine@cadets.gc.ca email address for verification purposes.

Well done!

This weekend will be a chance for everyone to finish the year with a fun, but challenging, experience. It will also be an opportunity for our cadets to make their own meals, navigate a trail using a compass and GPS, and put their tent & hoochie building skills to good use.  The trail hike will be approximately 3 hrs in duration on Sat and Sun. Cadets need to be well rested when they join us on Fri night, as well as hydrated – bring a 1L+ re-usable water bottle. Cadets need to understand that whatever they bring in, they must bring out, and carry it for the duration of the weekend. Backpacks only with kit – NO suitcases, hockey bags or other bags that cannot be carried on both shoulders through a densely wooded area for a long period of time.

Sign-up for the activity took place last Wednesday – there is still room if your cadet can attend. Please give your name to CI Ruttan on either Monday night or Wednesday at the parade.

Aeronca Aircraft Project

There is still some time and a few spaces remaining for Cadets to register for the Aeronca Aircraft Project in London, Ontario.  Applications are being accepted until May 29 and interested Cadets are asked to complete the attached registration form. We ask all of our SSC’s and CO’s to distribute the information and the attached documents at their LHQ to parents and Cadets.

The Aeronca Aircraft Project is a Course to help train Air Cadets in the skills of aviation technology and maintenance, which will undoubtedly benefit the Canadian Air Force and the aviation and aerospace industries in the community.  NEW this year is the course being held at the Jazz Hangar situated right at the London International Airport.

The Aeronca Project is an exciting opportunity for Air Cadets and includes the following:

Ø  The Course is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education, and on successful completion, Cadets will receive a Grade 11 credit toward High School graduation

Ø  The course is for 4 weeks in July, commencing Thursday July 2, 2015 and ending Tuesday July 28, 2015

Ø  The maximum number of Cadets available to participate is limited to 20

Ø  Graduates will receive a $400 bursary, awarded upon completion at the programs Grad Ceremony

Participating Cadets from outside the area will be provided with accommodation in the London area.

Please encourage interested Air Cadets to seek information about the course and to register by the deadline date if interested.  For more information, please contact: LCol (Retd) Armin Grunwald, Chairperson at the following email: agrunwald@rogers.com
