70th Canadian International Air Show

70th Annual Canadian International Airshow Volunteer Opportunity (Update)

So far, we’ve had two cadets volunteer for the Canadian International Airshow volunteer opportunity that was posted last month. If there are any other cadets who want to help out with the airshow and spend some time at the Canadian National Exhibition, please sign up here: https://809cadets.ca/events/event-sign-ups/ Admission to both the Airshow and the Exhibition are free for volunteers. Lunch will be served.

I’ll be personally supervising cadets at the event and can provide a ride for up to four volunteers to and from the Exhibition, so there’s no need to worry about how you’re going to get there and back.

Details can be found in the original post: 70th Annual Canadian International Airshow Volunteer Opportunity

Sherkston Shores Sky Fest 2018

There will always be those individuals in the world who think that jumping out of perfectly serviceable aircraft is a good idea. We don’t need to understand these people to respect the courage it takes to actually do it.

99 years ago in 1919, Frank Ellis became the very first person to parachute from an airplane over Canada, Crystal Beach to be specific.

In commemoration of this event, the Sherkston Shores Beach Resort and Campground will be holding Sky Fest 2018, featuring skydiving exhibitions, an appearance by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s WW2-era Douglas DC3 aircraft, and lots of summer activities.

The squadron isn’t doing anything specific for the event, but for those interested in going on their own, details can be found bellow.

809 Rafting Trip

Bravo Zulu to OCdt Dan Couroux for an AMAZING job in organizing our most recent trip to Owl Rafting on the Ottawa River. A great time was had by all, and wouldn’t have happened without his organizing and chasing.

We are all home tired and ready for some down time. I hope everyone has a great time at summer training. See everyone in the fall.

Canada’s Wonderland Trip Tomorrow!

Final details on the Canada’s Wonderland trip tomorrow!

Cadets should arrive in civilian dress no later than 0815h (8:15am) with the following updated kit list:

  • Health Card (Absolute must. You can’t go without it.)
  • Bag Lunch (Mark it with your name!)
  • 809 Ball Cap (optional)
  • Sunblock
  • Water Bottle
  • Bathing Suit and Towel (There is a water park to be considered.)
  • Small Backpack

Cadets will travel in groups of at least two while at the park.

If you want to rent a locker for Splash Works, I’m told that it’s unreasonably expensive. ($15 minimum rental cost.) Recommendation is to travel in larger groups and take turns watching the backpacks to keep costs down.

OCdt Couroux and I will be the drivers/supervisors for the day. Expect to come and pick up your thoroughly exhausted cadet at 2130h (9:30pm) at 809 HQ. It’s going to be fun!
