NAG Drill Comp & VanNoort Florist Fundraiser **UPDATE**

DRILL TEAM PRACTICE FROM 7-8PM TONIGHT. Dress: jeans, sqn t-shirt, drill boots and wedge.

Our 809 Sqn Drill Team is representing us at the NAG Drill Competition tomorrow, Sat 12 Apr 14, at our LHQ. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer us on (quietly!).  Arrival time is 8am and we’ll be finished by 3pm. Bring your lunch – or buy a hot dog from the 809 Sqn Sponsoring Committee who will be running a canteen. $1 each item: hot dog (all beef), chips, pop, chocolate bars. Dress is C-2 – bring it on a hanger and come dressed in 809 Sqn t-shirt, jeans and running shoes (for the Range portion of the comp). For parents: our competition time is 11am.

VanNoort Florists is hosting a fundraiser kick-off on Sat from 10-3pm  at their store on Four Mile Creek Road (just down from our LHQ). We are delighted that they have chosen to support us through their Spring Hydrangea sale. Four cadets are required to help out. So far we have 2-3 confirmed. Please email Capt Palumbo if you can take a shift 10-1230 or 1230-3pm. Hours count toward High School volunteer requirements. tammypalumbo@yahoo.ca

Bottle Drive a success!

A very special thank you to VANNOORT GREENHOUSES (Mr. & Mrs. VanNoort) for lending us the use of their space and their two trucks for the duration of the day – it would not have been a success without their support.

The Bottle Drive was a huge success – 100% attendance from our cadets, and fantastic support from our Parents, Staff & Sponsors. THANK YOU to everyone who made this day so productive.

REMEMBER: if you have pictures that you would like to see on the website, please send them to Capt Palumbo. Even if it’s a crazy photo bomb – like Stearns.

MONDAY TRAINING: Drill 7-8pm Range 8-9pm

Bottle Drive 4 Jan 2014

The bottle drive will be held rain or shine. Please  dress in appropriate civilian clothing – WEAR YOUR CADET PARKA & CADET TOQUE over your clothes.  Cadet hoodies or other squadron spirit wear is encouraged. This is a MANDATORY fundraising event for our cadets.

Cadets will be doing street-side pick up and sorting bottles at the greenhouse.

Parents, we need your help for driving and bottle sorting.

Cadet drop off is at 8:30am and end-of-day pickup is at 4:00pm. We will start the routes at 9:00am. Lunch will be provided. You must contact the CO if you are unable to attend – this may affect participation in the Winter FTX in February.

This event is not being held at the squadron, but at Van Noort Greenhouses, 2069 Four Mile Creek Rd at the corner of Hunter Rd. Enter off Hunter Rd and park behind the greenhouse.bott drive

Santa Claus Parade

It’s that time of year again and the Santa Claus Parade is upon us.

Each year we participate in the Niagara on the Lake Santa Claus Parade.  The cadets are assigned various “tasks” for the parade and we do our best to spread holiday cheer.

Oh, and we usually win best youth group parade entry!

Please be sure to be at Branch 124 Legion no later than 10:00am on King St. in NOTL for a 11:00 parade start. (Take note that the town starts to close down roads around 10:00am and it becomes increasingly difficult to get to the legion after that time).

Ensure you’re dressed in C-3 with warm underclothes, toque, black gloves and cadet parka (unless told specifically otherwise by WO1 Prue or WO2 Hendriks)

The parade itself is about 1.5 hours from start to finish.  Therefore your cadet will be ready for pick up no later than 1:00pm at the legion.  (Family’s staying to watch the parade are encouraged to find a spot close to the beginning so that you can see the entire parade and still pick up your cadet on time).

I look forward to seeing everyone there!

TAGGING THIS WKND

Here is the most up-to-date version. Please review and send me an email if you need to change your shift or add another on Sat afternoon. Tag-Day-Sig-Up-URGENT2

We still have 5 spots open to fill on Sat afternoon –  1 at the Pen Centre Shopper’s Drug Mart & the rest at NOTL/Virgil locations. While every cadet has signed-up for one shift, only 1 cadet has signed-up for 2.  The remaining 5 spots would need to be filled by cadets who can do a second. Please consider filling them: the more locations we tag, the more $ we have for training. Thank you in advance.

PARENTS: don’t forget that we need parents to drive cadets out to locations for tagging in NOTL/Virgil. Give your name when you arrive at the squadron.

TAG DAY SIGN-UP

We need more cadets for our Tagging this wknd. Specifically, we need 7 more for Sat afternoon both in NOTL/Virgil and Pen Centre St. Catharines. Each cadet is required to do at least one shift, if they sign up for both on Sat we will provide lunch AND they receive another ballet towards the Top Fundraiser award.

EMAIL CAPT PALUMBO tammypalumbo@yahoo.ca to change your sign-up or to add another one on Sat afternoon.

THANK YOU in advance – we appreciate that this is a busy time of year.

Parents: please remember that Tagging is one of our essential fundraising opportunities. We use the money raised to pay for our facilities, trg activites and extra flying.

  • Air Mattress
  • Toiletries (tooth brush/paste, wash cloth, soap, small towel, deodorant  etc)
  • PJ’s to sleep in
