PARENT BRIEFING – starts at 815pm in classroom #1.

Tonight we will be discussing training expectations, the new registration process, and Summer training applications. Please plan to attend – important information will help your cadet have the best possible experience this year.

SATURDAY: Gliding at the NOTL Airport. 9am – dress is civilian (sqn t-shirt, 809 Ball capp, jeans and running shoes. Bring a sweater – it gets cold out there). Bring a backpack with a snack, something to read, listen to. OCdt Couroux will be the Staff member on-site. Meet at the Airport terminal Building to be shuttled over to the launch area. Parents are welcome to join, but please bring a lawn chair. Cadets will be sent up as organized by the SOGC staff – please co-operate with them.

Gliding Sunday – 9 spots left!

We need 9 more cadets to sign up for Gliding on Sunday. Bring your Mom out to watch!

1-4pm at the Niagara District Airport in NOTL. Dress: Civilian comfortable. Bring: backpack with something to read, listen to, eat. Take care of your own kit.

Meet at the terminal building at 1245pm. You must be shuttled to the flight line – do not attempt to walk out on your own.

Flying Schedule

Due to the long day at the Gliding Centre yesterday, I only had time to publish today’s schdule.

Below is the schedule for the remaining flights (log-in to view):

** Aircraft may not be available, and will be rescheduled if required

All cadets are to be at the St Catharines Flying Club (not the terminal) no later than 6:15pm (I will not wait for you). If you are late/no-show you will not be rescheduled. We have a budget to work within and I cannot add extra flights.

Monday Night pick-ups will be at 8pm at the airport. I will drive the cadets back to the Cadet Building on Wednesdays for regular pick-ups.

You MUST bring your health card.

Monday flights will be civis, Wednesday will be in uniform (as per dress of the day).

Flying CANCELLED April 13

After reviewing the Forecast for St Catharines Airport, Niagara Falls International Airport, and Hamilton Airport, I will be cancelling flying tonight.

Winds are forecast to be up to 55kts (100km/h), low ceilings, and thunderstorms in the area. Capt Palumbo may call me crazy from time to time, but I’m not THAT crazy. The bad weather is due to an advancing cold front expected to hit Niagara around 7pm.

I will discuss with the affected passengers on Wednesday when they are available to make up the flight.

Flying – 13 April

The following 3 cadets are scheduled to meet at St Catharines (Niagara District) Airport no later than 6:15pm (we will not wait).  Pick-up times have changed to 8pm at the airport.

I realize that there is a pizza party for the drill team the same day, but unfortunately I cannot change the flying schedule this late.

Flying

I just received approval to conduct familiarization flights out of the St Catharines Flying Club from April 1st to May 31st.

I would like to use the month of April to do all the flying and the month of May as alternate days.

On Wednesday I will be collecting names of those who are interested in going flying, and any days that don’t work for you.

The duration of the flights will depend on the interest level of the cadets.  We have a budget we need to work within, but if only a few cadets want to go, we will do longer flights.  Possibly a Toronto skyline flight where we buzz the CN tower?  Who knows, the sky’s the limit….get it?

I’m sorry, that was really bad.

See you Monday!

Glider Flying UPDATE

Although sunny and warm today, it is super windy and only tow plane rides were allowed. This may be the case for us tomorrow afternoon, or it may be cancelled entirely.

CI Thiffault will be at the airport regardless for 1245 to let you know the status. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to let you know in advance, and we will be relying on the gliding centre staff to make the call as to whether or not we fly. Fingers crossed!
