The Royal Canadian Legion’s Decoration Day Parade is a continuation of the precursor to Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. It is an opportunity to visit the graves of our war dead and pay respects in a sombre fashion. The local branch has asked for a party of cadets to be present at this year’s observations from 1330h (1:30pm) to 1500h (3:00pm) on 16 Sep 18.
CI Thiffault
As I’m sure many of you noticed, CI Thiffault wasn’t present at our first night last Wednesday. Due to a need to focus more time on her family, she has resigned from 809’s staff. Because of CI Thiffault’s unbridled enthusiasm for our squadron, and because she has been such an essential member of our staff for so many years, accepting her resignation has been one of the hardest things I have had to do as Commanding Officer. I have made it very clear that she is always welcome back and that we would love to see her whenever she can come to visit us. We’re all sending her and her family our best wishes and will be arranging a proper send-off in the next few weeks.
She has asked me to post the following to our web site so that everyone understands the circumstances of her resignation properly.

809 Newark RCACS
Dear 809 Squadron Cadets, Families, Staff and Sponsors,
As some of you may know my younger son Jeremy developed serious health issues over the past few months which will require treatment and a potentially long recovery. We are hoping that he will be restored to full health but for now I must focus on him. It is for this reason that I have offered Captain Lemoine my resignation from 809 Squadron. After so many years of working together I certainly will miss you all. The Cadet program remains one of the best opportunities for youth in Canada and I wish Newark Squadron every success in its new home.
Sincerely,
Heather Thiffault

If you’re at all interested in cars (and the occasional military vehicle) then this is something you might enjoy. Volunteer activities include helping to park cars, picking up trash, selling 50/50 lottery tickets, selling pop and water, and other miscellaneous duties.
This is posted as an opportunity and not as an official cadet function. Wearing 809 Squadron hats, shirts, &c is still encouraged to let everyone know who we are and what we’re doing in our communities.

Cadets, if you haven’t seen the uniform modernization survey, here’s your chance to have a voice! Here are some of the different reactions so far.
The survey is open to cadets, League partners, stakeholders as well as COATS and CIC Officers.
