Welcome Back 809 Squadron,

I hope you all had a great summer.   I know I did.  However, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back at cadets.   Our first day back is this Wednesday (September 6).    Dress for the evening will be C3B.    For those of you who don’t remember, the orders of dress can be found on our website, here:

Seeing that this is our first night back, we do have some administrative details to look after.   So, make sure that you bring in your health cards and proof of citizenship/residency.

Make sure you put the word out to any of your friends (from 12-18)  that we’re recruiting.   If you think may benefit from the program, please invite them out.

Bottle Drop Off – Saturday, June 10 – 0830 hrs – VanNoorts Warehouse

•  Where: VanNoorts Warehouse on Hunter Rd @ 4 Mile Creek Rd
• When: Saturday June 10, 2023 @ 0830hrs
• Who: All Cadets, Parents/Guardians, Staff and SSC members
• This is the final activity for the 2022/23 training year. All members of the squadron are required to be on-hand for the fundraising activity.   The more hands on-board, the more we can accomplish.  We do this 4 times a year and it’s our our largest fundraiser.
• PARENTS & GUARDIANS – We need your help too!  We know you value the program, otherwise you wouldn’t have your children join the unit.  The funds we generate from bottle drives help support training activities, help pay the rent for our facility and keep the program free for the cadets!  All this while providing a service for the community.   We need your help to help sort bottles and to transport them from the drop off locations back to the warehouse.  If you have a truck or SUV that can be used to assist please bring it.

Hello 809.  Well, here we are, final week of the 2022-23 training year.   Everyone did extremely well at the ACR and Banquet last week.  I had a great time and was extremely proud of all of you and your accomplishments.   This week we have the Cadet Change of Command & Wings Parade on Wednesday and the Bottle Drop off on Saturday.   Looking forward to seeing everyone once more before the summer break.

2. Cadet Change of Command & Wings Parade – Wednesday June 07

• Practice for 1^st half of the evening.
• Parade will kick off at 2000hrs (8pm)
• Parents/Guardians are invited and encouraged to attend
• Events on the parade include:
  • Wings Parade
    • WO2 Shay Vidal will be presented his Power Pilot Wings in an official ceremony
  • Level Promotions
    • All cadets finishing their levels will be presented with their appropriate new rank
  • Change of Command parade
    • WO1 Emily Abt will hand over command of the squadron to WO2 Elias Dau.

There is a change in dress. We are no longer going with 3B’s for the evening. Cadets are to wear FTU’s, Staff are to wear CADPAT. This will give you the opportunity to keep your blues from getting messed up for Saturday.

The cadets are all having a blast at Wonderland.   We’re still on track for departing Wonderland at 2000hrs (8pm) and arriving at the squadron headquarters at 2200hrs (10pm)

Good afternoon everyone,

Just a reminder for everyone about the Canada’s Wonderland Trip on Saturday.
You’ve all been emailed your tickets. Please take time to save a copy to your phone, or print out a paper copy to keep with you.

– Be at the squadron on Saturday morning no later than 0745 (bus leaves at 0800)
– Bring your health card
– Bring money for snacks, lunch, lockers and for spending.
– Wear suitable, appropriate, civilian clothing
– Bring Sunblock if you have it.
– Bring swimming clothes if you wish to partake in Splashworks
– Bring a backpack to carry your belongings in – This will most likely be searched as you enter the park.

NOTE: There is a change to the return time. Because the meal won’t be available until about 1730hrs, I’ve negotiated to for the bus to return a little later. It is now scheduled to leave Canada’s wonderland at 2000hrs (8pm), returning approx 2200hrs (10pm). This will also give you a little more time in the park.
