NAG Sports Competition 2020 Update

We are the little squadron that could!

2Lt Nicolescu has reported back that 809 was victorious in European Handball and won second place in the overall competition. Great job to all of the cadets who competed. We’re proud of all of you!

Updated arrival time at 809 HQ is now 1750 (5:50pm), which is a little bit earlier than originally anticipated.

Thank you, 2Lt Nicolescu for supervising today.

Operations Order – NAG Sports Competition 2020

Good news!

It looks like the cadets at 126 Flying Lancers get to be picked up first, so our cadets can sleep in a few more minutes. The bus will be at 809 HQ at 0700 and not at 0630 as previously announced. 809 Newark cadets are to arrive at 809 HQ no later than 0645. We expect the bus to return to 809 HQ at 1900.

As discussed on Wednesday, cadets are to bring their health cards, a reusable water bottle, and something to occupy any free time they might find themselves with. Cadets who do not have their health cards will not be permitted to board the bus. This is a sports competition, so cadets should wear appropriate attire for an active day. 2Lt Nicolescu will be supervising, will have the squadron phone with her, and can be contacted if your cadet needs to be reached.

Capt Durward (CO of 611 Harvard and host of the competition this year) has provided the full operations order below.

Best of luck to all of our teams. I know you’ll do 809 proud!

CO’s Message

It’s an exciting week for competitions! On Wednesday, we have our annual Effective Speaking Competition and on Saturday, we go to Cayuga to compete in the Niagara Air Group Sports competition. It’s a great kick-off for an exciting February.

The Effective Speaking Competition takes place on the same night as our regular CO’s Parade, so the dress will be C1A but we’ll dispense with the actual CO’s Parade if the Effective Speaking Competition goes long.

Further details about the NAG Sports Competition will be posted before Wednesday.

Sports Competition Ending Early

Well, it looks like the competition will be ending earlier than planned.  We were originally looking at returning around 5:30pm, now it looks like the timing will be closer to 4:30pm.

I’ll post another notification if that timing changes.  Please check back prior to picking up your cadet.

Regards,

OCdt Couroux

Niagara Air Group Sports Competition – Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the annual NAG (Niagara Air Group) Sports Competition! We will be competing in two of the sports: handball and soccer.

All participating cadets are expected to arrive at the front doors of 809 Squadron HQ (CNC) at 0615h (6:15am) for a departure of 0630h (6:30am). We’ll be picking up the teams from 87 Eagle Squadron in Welland on the way, so there will be the potential for some good social time on the way there and back.

Pick-up will be from the same location at approximately 1730h (5:30pm). There are two squadrons not participating this year, so the day may turn out shorter than expected. Watch the web site for updates in the event that the bus is returning early.

Bring the following: HEALTH CARD (nobody boards the bus without one), water bottle, backpack to hold extra clothes (come dressed in your 809 Squadron t-shirt if you have one, shorts, socks and running shoes with long pants/sweater overtop), snack and any reading material, card game, &c to pass the time between games. Your belongings will be left unattended at times, so do NOT bring anything that you would not want to lose.

Parents are welcome to come and watch: we will be competing in Cayuga at the High School located at 70 Highway 54.

Lunch will be provided for all participants. There will be a canteen as well, so bring $5 for that if you want to partake.

OCdt Couroux is the supervising officer for this event.

NAG Sports Competition – Victory!

On the bus and thoroughly exhausted, 809’s NAG Sports Competition team is heading home undefeated and victorious! They scored first place in Handball and Soccer, and also won the overall competition against some very challenging opponents. There was an amazing effort put forward today, and congratulations to each and every one of them is well deserved. BZ, 809!

NAG Sports Competition – Status

The good news is that our Squadron is ahead! We’ve won the handball competition and are in contention for soccer. The bad news is that the games are running behind and we’re not going to be out of Dunnville until 5pm. This gives us a revised ETA to 809’s HQ of 1830 (6:30pm). Will update as I know more.
