Migration to Cadets365

Good morning.

Over the next little bit, we’ll be migrating all cadet and staff Google Workspace accounts to the new Cadets365 platform. During the period where we had to shift to virtual training, the Google Workspace platform served us well, but the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers organization will be conducting all activities over Cadets365 and the move is necessary.

I’ll be working with Lt Russell to provide access details and credentials to each cadet. Once we have verified that cadets can successfully connect to their Cadets365 account, we’ll forward all 809cadets.ca email and eventually retire the 809cadets.ca accounts.

In the meantime, if any cadets currently have access to operational Cadets365 accounts, email Lt Russell and myself so that we can forward your 809cadets.ca email and strike you off of our migration list.

CO’s Message

Good morning!

In preparation for our outing to see the new “Top Gun: Maverick” film next Thursday, we’ll be showing the original “Top Gun” film tonight. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a classic for Air Cadets and was responsible for many cadets joining our program when it came out. Everyone wanted to be Maverick… and if you don’t know who he is, you need to come out tonight to find out. Canteen will be open and popcorn will be served.

Wednesday night, we’re in final preparations for our ACR/Awards/CoC night next week. Dress will be C3 dress for the evening.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone tonight and on Wednesday!

SWO’s Message

Hello cadets! It’s our last week before our annual ceremonial review which mean we need to get prepared. Remember to keep working on your uniforms for this Wednesday and get ready for some learning. We’re going to be teaching you all you need to know to prepare for our final parade of the year. I hope to see you all on Monday and Wednesday.

Power Pilot Training Course

PPTC Wings

Good morning!

We’ve received our first offer for summer training and it’s a big one! Congratulations to FSgt Vidal, who has been selected for (and has accepted) the offer to attend this summer’s Power Pilot Training Course. Please take the opportunity to congratulate him on his selection this Wednesday.

I’m also taking this as a sign that offers for other courses will start trickling in soon. For everyone else who has applied, have just a little more patience.

CO’s Message

Good evening!

Reports have it that there were some excited cadets this weekend at the CC130J Hercules familiarization flight. Other than some miscommunication that we still need to get to the bottom of, it was a very successful event. Thanks go to Lt Couroux and CI Dau for serving as escorts on Saturday.

We’ve got an optional training night on Monday at 1900 (7:00pm) with a mixture of activities, including some drill and some squadron sports. Optional training nights are more casual and will not be uniformed. Standard civilian garb is appropriate.

Wednesday night, we’re back to regular training, but are switching to C3B dress for the evening as we begin to prepare for our Annual Ceremonial Review. We won’t be switching back to C5 dress for the remainder of the training year, so make sure everything fits.

See everyone on Wednesday!

Correction

The WROs this week indicated in one section that the regular training night would be the 3rd rather than the 4th of May. This was a typo. There is no training tonight and we will have our regular training night tomorrow. Please accept my apology for the error.

CO’s Message

Good afternoon!

We had a really good time last week between bowling and a last-minute rework of our training night. I’m particularly glad to see our attendance picking up again.

With the exception of one end-of-year activity that’s still in the planning stages, I’ve populated all of the squadron activities for the rest of the training year in the “Upcoming Activities” section of the WROs. Take a close look. As of next week, we’re back in our blue uniforms and slowly moving up to proper dress for our Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR), Awards Night, and Change of Command on the 25th of May. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to find out what fits and what doesn’t, do it this week so that you can see CI Dau about getting replacements for the things that don’t.

This Wednesday, we have a special activity night planned. They have some aviation and aerospace ideas revolving around the significance of May 4th. (I’m thinking that Lt Couroux might have some understanding of such things.) Make sure you come out and see what they have planned.

Last week, the pictures below were posted to get everyone excited about the RCAF familiarization flights this Saturday! We’ve got a bus picking us up at 0715 that Saturday morning and we’re heading down to London International Airport to catch a ride. Cadets attending should be wearing C5 uniform, C3B if they don’t have a complete C5 uniform, and (as a last resort) black pants and a white shirt if they have neither. Cadets who find themselves in that last category need to see both CI Dau and myself this Wednesday.

Participating cadets need to be at 809 HQ at 0700 on Saturday morning at the latest in proper attire, with a snack bag for the trip, a refillable water bottle, and their Ontario health cards. If any of these are missing, the cadet will not board the bus. Don’t leave things at home.

See everyone on Wednesday!

CO’s Message

Good afternoon!

It’s time to bring on the fun! Tonight’s all about the bowling at Parkway Social in St. Catharines. We’ll be throwing balls down the lanes from 1900 (7pm) to 2100 (9pm) so bring your competitive spirit and an appetite because there will be food! We’re still subject to COVID-19 precautionary procedures, so do the on-line check-in below just as if you were coming to training on Wednesday and definitely bring a mask. When you’re not eating, mask wear and physical distancing are still required.

On Wednesday, we’re returning to some regular aviation subject training to get you into into the theme of our next big activity… RCAF familiarization flying on the 7th of May! We’ve got a bus picking us up at 0715 that Saturday morning and we’re heading down to London International Airport to get a ride on one of these.

If there’s ever a time to be excited about aviation, this is the time! We’ll discuss the details on Wednesday.

See you on tonight!

CO’s Message

Good evening!

Last week’s fitness testing turnout could have been a lot better. We had a little under half of the squadron in attendance and not nearly enough people taking the time to call in and let us know that they wouldn’t be there. The cadet program is a team effort and everyone needs to be on-board in order for everyone to get the most out of it. If a cadet really can’t be in attendance for something, it is expected that they will call in or email us to let us know. Beginning in the new training year, this will be the difference between being absent with an excuse and being absent. Absences without an excuse will count against a cadet’s flight for the inter-flight competitions when they start again, so it’s best to build good habits now.

This week, we will be conducting a marksmanship night and picking our best shots to participate in the mail-in marksmanship competition series. Lt Nicolescu has provided the linked air rifle handling checklist for cadets with some air rifle marksmanship experience to review. We understand that there are a few cadets who still haven’t had an opportunity to become familiar with the handling of air rifles and they will be given appropriate instruction at the beginning of the evening to ensure that they’re properly prepared to participate.

Cadet Air Rifle Handling Test Assessment Checklist

For proficiency level five (L5) cadets, we’ll be conducting leadership evaluations throughout the evening.

See you on Wednesday!

SWO’s Message

This week we will be doing some marksmanship! If you wear glasses you can wear those normally instead of safety glasses however I suggest you wear contacts if possible as they tend to be easier to shoot in. We will briefly go over rifle safety prior to starting the night as well. Another reminder to check you blues to make sure everything fits and for the new Lac’s to make sure you put the new ranks on your blue tunic. If you need help figuring out how to do so please feel free to email any of the seniors and we can help.

CO’s Message

Good afternoon!

Fitness testing is this week and it’s an opportunity to set some goals. We haven’t done proper in-person fitness testing over the last few years, so it will be good to get a baseline for where we are and how we can improve. Testing will cover muscular flexibility in multiple categories as well as cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Cadets who perform well will be awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold or Excellence badges to apply to their blue uniform tunics. We’re not only establishing current fitness standards, but also setting individual targets for improvement in the first part of the next training year.

For senior cadets, remembers that staff and summer training opportunities are still open, but not for much longer. Junior cadets will get the full run-down on the Cadet Activity Program over the next couple of weeks.

SWO’s Message

This week is all about fitness and pushing ourselves so be prepared for some hard work. We get a week off uniforms but you should all still put some time in every week to work on making them look as good as possible. Remember we are going back to blues soon so make sure everything fits now. Most of you have never done a fitness test with us so I’m excited to see how well you all do. See you on Wednesday!
