Summer Training Application Update

On the original “Summer Training 2016” form where cadets were to submit their selections for summer training opportunities, there were two omissions:

Basic Aviation Course (BAC) – Three week course
Advanced Aviation Course (AAC) – Six week course

Some cadets noticed this and wrote in their selections, which is appreciated. For those who made their selections based solely on what was available on the form and want to alter their selections to include BAC or AAC, please see Capt Palumbo on Wednesday evening.

Please accept my apology for the omission and inconvenience.

Monday Night Training

Range training for the level four cadets took place last week. This week’s range session will be the tryouts for the squadron Range Team. Please note that all cadets are eligible for the Range Team and are encouraged to come out and compete for a spot!

Range Team: Tryouts from 7:30-9:30pm.

Drill: Jeans, squadron t-shirt, DRILL BOOTS and WEDGE.

Range: Jeans, squadron t-shirt, running shoes, squadron ball cap (optional)

Monday Night Training

Range training for the level one and two cadets took place last week. This week’s range training will be for level four cadets.

This week: Level four range training from from 730-930pm.

Drill Team: 630-730pm.

Due to a lack of available staff that are trained as an Range Safety Officer (RSO), we are utilizing staff from other cadet units. Their availability determines when we run the program. PARENTS: please endeavour to have your cadet at each Monday night that is specifically for your cadet for range training. We appreciate that this is not ideal, but are doing our best to make range training (a mandatory part of the Air Cadet training program) available to our cadets.

LISTEN carefully at briefing on the Wednesday night before to hear about what training will be offered. Some nights will only be one event, others will be two or more.

DRESS standards for the various activities are as follows:

Drill: jeans, squadron t-shirt, DRILL BOOTS, WEDGE – as per OCdt Couroux’s direction on Wed evening. Apologies for the miscommunication.

Sports: shorts, squadron t-shirt, running shoes, squadron ball cap (optional)

Range: jeans, squadron t-shirt, running shoes, squadron ball cap (optional)

Canada Day

Thank you to all of the cadets who made it out to the Canada Day celebrations in the Old Town.

The rotary club was very appreciative — Ms. de Laat of the Rotary Youth Committee has asked me to pass on her comments that the participating cadets “are a delight to work with and present themselves in a very polite and professional way.” Great job representing 809 in our community!

For those of who are filling out forms for volunteer hours at school, please reference myself and my jody.lemoine@cadets.gc.ca email address for verification purposes.

Well done!

Washington DC Trip Update

Just letting everyone know that we have arrived safely in Washington DC.

Cadets and trip staff have checked into their hotel rooms and we’re one organizational meeting away from getting a good night’s sleep.

The whirlwind begins tomorrow morning with a trip to Arlington National Cemetery.

More updates to follow.

Bag Lunch for Washington DC Trip

This is a reminder that lunch en route to Washington DC is to be a bag lunch brought with each cadet tomorrow.

Cadets’ bag lunches must be peanut-free as there are cadets on the trip who are highly allergic to peanuts and may react to even indirect exposure.

Lunch packaging should also be entirely disposable. There are enough things to carry on the trip without adding Tupperware and dirty cutlery to the list.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at 5:30am tomorrow!

Monday Night Training

7-8pm Drill Team

8-9pm Sports

Come dressed to practice/play. Drill team members don’t forget your wedge and parade boots.

We’re getting close to having a full complement for the Drill Competition, but we’re not there yet. Participation on the Drill Team is open to ALL, so if you haven’t come out yet, now is the time to do it. Don’t miss the fun!
