Announcements

1. Monday Evening Optional Training – 23 January – Effective Speaking and Aviation

When: 1830-2115
Where: Squadron HQ
Dress: Appropriate Civilian Attire
Duty Officer: CI Dau

Effective Speaking:

We will be learning how to edit your work/ speeches. Second half we will be practicing impromptus. Speeches are to be completed. To be printed double spaced and handed in for Monday.

Aviation:

WO2 Vidal will be running an aviation class. This is a great introduction to anyone considering becoming a pilot later in their cadet career, or if you just have an interest. This week, you’ll be presenting your favourite planes.

2. 126/809 RCACS Mixed Drill Team

Unfortunately, Drill Team has been cancelled this week due to another engagement that the officers are attending.

3. Niagara Air Group Sports Competition – Saturday, January 28

The nine squadrons making up the Niagara Air Group (NAG) will be competing in three different sports on Saturday, January 28.

  • Volleyball
  • European Handball
  • Basketball

When: Saturday, January 28
Departure: Arrive NLT 0715 at 809 Squadron HQ (Bus Departs at 0730)
Arrival: Approximately 1630 at 809 Squadron HQ
Where: Cayuga Secondary School
Dress: Squadron spirit wear (as provided) with appropriate sports pants/shorts and sports shoes

611 Harvard Squadron in Dunnville will be hosting. Transportation and lunch will be provided.

Bring:

  • HEALTH CARD! (You will be denied boarding of the bus without this)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Something to do on the bus (the bus ride is approximately 1:15h)
  • Any electronics you bring are your own responsibility
  • Snack for trip

6. Summer Training

Summer training opportunities have been posted for this year and it looks pretty exciting. Here’s the generality:

Cadet Activity Program (CAP)

These are local, mostly daytime activities geared towards familiarization of the cadet program. These programs will be offered in St Catharines

  • CAP Year 1 = Level 1 Cadets 17AUG2023 – 20AUG2023
  • CAP Year 2 = Level 2 Cadets 23AUG2023 – 29AUG2023

Cadet Training Centre (CTC)

These are a combination of virtual training and in-person training at one of the Cadet Training Centres across Canada. To apply for one of these courses you must be at least level 3 qualified by the start of the course. Courses include:

  • Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor (Level 3’s) Connaught CTC 10JUL2023-28JUL2023
  • Drill and Ceremonial Instructor (Level 3’s) Blackdown CTC 10JUL2023-28JUL2023
  • Fitness and Sports Instructor (Level 3’s) Scattered Starts at various centres
  • Military Band Musician (Level 3’s) 17JUL2023-04AUG2023 at various centres
  • Advanced Aviation (Level 3’s) Trenton CTC 10JUL2023-28JUL2023
  • Survival Instructor (Level 3’s) Blackdown CTC 10JUL2023-28JUL2023

Digital Learning

These are on-line coursed aimed at level 3’s. Courses approx. 3 weeks and are staggered throughout the summer

Courses include:

  • Cadet Administration and Supply Assistant
  • Cadet Correspondent
  • Cyber Security

Staff Cadet

Staff cadet opportunities are available at most CAP and CTC locations. You must be 16 years of age prior to the serial start date and must be at least level 4 qualified.

International Exchange

International exchanges are back. This is an opportunity for Level 4 cadets or higher to participate in an exchange to either the United States or the United Kingdom. There’s also an opportunity to work with the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Officer School in the US.
