Well, here we are, the last weekend of training for 2022. We have only 2 items this week: Monday optional training and on Wednesday, our 14th Annual Mess Dinner. Following that, we’re shutting down for a well-deserved break. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the Cadets, Staff and SSC a happy holiday season and I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our Mess Dinner and also in the new year.

Training

14th Annual Mess Dinner

Where: Simpson Room, Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre

When: Wednesday 21 December, 2022 at 1815hrs for 1830hrs Start

Who: All Cadets, Staff and SSC Members

Dress: Cadets: Cadets – C2, CAF – 2 or 2B, Civilians – Business Attire

After going virtual for 2020 & 2021, we’re finally able to have our annual Mess Dinner in person. This will be our last parade for 2022 before the holidays Details on timings and location are to follow in a separate email.

This is considered part of your mandatory training and is meant to teach you about the traditions of the Royal Canadian Air Force. It also gives you the opportunity to take part in a social event that centers around the cadets of 809 squadron.

Dress for the occasion will be C2, which means the following. Please note that name tags are to not permitted to be warn:

There is a sign up for the event on our website. It’s important that you indicate your intention to join us for the eventing.

Parental Assistance Sign-Up

Parents have traditionally volunteered to assist in the event by acting as servers for the evening. We’re looking for 6 parents to sign up to help out.

This is event is considered to be part of your mandatory training, so we expect to see everyone there. Per normal procedures, if you can’t make it, you need to notify the squadron of your absence.

1. Monday Evening Optional Training – 19 December – Effective Speaking and Aviation

When: 1830-2115
Where: Squadron HQ
Dress: Appropriate Civilian Attire
Duty Officer: Lt Couroux

Effective Speaking:

Mrs Gowans has indicated that you’ll be practicing your impromptus. She’s also asked that you hand in your completed speeches as well.

Aviation:

FSgt Vidal will be running an aviation class. This is a great introduction to anyone considering becoming a pilot later in their cadet career, or if you just have an interest. This week, you’ll be presenting your favourite planes.

2. 126/809 RCACS Mixed Drill Team

Drill Team has been cancelled until the new year. More information to follow as it’s received.

3. Bottle Drive – Saturday, January 7

Our first fundraiser for 2023 is coming up January 7. This activity helps provide funds so that the squadron can operate and run the training program. All cadets are expected to participate and we’re also asking that parents/guardians take part as well.
