It’s no longer a requirement for you to fill out and post a declaration. The link for this will no longer be provided.

Social distancing will still be practiced as much as possible. Also, it’s encouraged that we do as much training as possible outside.

We’re still committed to making cadets a safe and fun experience. If you have any questions on this, please consult a staff member.

If you feel sick, do the responsible thing, stay home.

Here’s the info for the next practice:

When: Thursday, November 3 1830hrs – 2030hrs
Where: River View Public School, 3300 Cattell Drive, Niagara Falls

4. Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign

Again, this weekend we’ll be assisting Branch 124 of the Royal Canadian Legion to distribute poppies around the community. The Legion is our major sponsor and deserves our support. Here’s the info for this upcoming Saturday:

Where: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124, 410 King Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0
When: Saturday, November 5 (Arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of your shift.)
Dress of the Day: C3 – Routine Training Dress – See the numbered orders of dress on our web site: Air Cadet Uniform – Numbered Orders of Dress (2019).

Bring with you:

  1. Bottle of water
  2. Parka
  3. Toque
  4. Gloves

Your uniform must be complete when worn. If you are missing parts, or parts don’t fit particularly well, dress in a white collared shirt, black dress pants and bring suitable cold weather gear just in case.

After checking in at the Legion, parents will be asked to drop off their cadets at the assigned locations.

5. Remembrance Day Activities

Branch 124 of the Royal Canadian Legion (our main sponsor) has reached out to us to support them in their Remembrance Day Activities. This usually involves participation in not only the Remembrance Day ceremonies in both Old Town and in Queenston, but also includes a Poppy Drive and an overnight Vigil. The schedule of events is as follows:

Poppy Drive – Saturday, October 29 and Saturday, November 5

  • Cadets will be required throughout each day to hand out poppies and take donations for the Legion.
  • Parents and SSC members will be requested to assist with the logistics

Overnight Vigil – Thursday, November 10 at RCL Branch 124

  • Usually starts at about 1900hrs and runs all night
  • Cadets will be marched to the Queen St Cenotaph, in rotating shifts, to stand guard at the cenotaph.
  • Parents and SSC members will be requested to provide support for breakfast for the cadets attending the vigil and ceremonies

Remembrance Day Ceremonies – Friday, November 11

The squadron will provide a marching contingent for two ceremonies:

  • 1045 at Queen Street Cenotaph in Old Town
  • 1245 at Queenston Cenotaph in Queenston

Full participation from the squadron is expected for each of the activities. If you’re in need of a letter explaining your absence from school on Friday, November 11, please let us know.

6. National Online Ground School

The application deadline for the Air Cadet Online Ground School for this summer’s Glider and Power Pilot Training Courses has been extended to 15 November. Please see Capt Lemoine if you’d like to apply.

7. Cadet Co-op (High School Credit Program)

The Training Year Cadet Co-op is starting back up once again in partnership between UCDSB (Upper Canada District School Board) and RCSU Central.

To be eligible a cadet must:

  • Attend High School in Ontario
  • Reside in Ontario
  • Be a current cadet

There is a misconception that has come up over the years:

  • Cadets must be a student from UCDSB – Incorrect
  • The program is a ministry of education program, coordinated on behalf of the ministry through UCDSB. As long as the cadet is a student of any school board in Ontario (French, English, Public, Catholic, or even Private) they are eligible as the credit is linked to their OEN (Ontario Education Number)

Cadets can earn up to four (4) credits through the training year version of cadet co-op. It takes 90 hours of cadet activities (training, team practices, uniform prep, lesson prep, &c) to earn a credit, as well as completion of the pre-placement assignments, tracking their hours on a log sheet, and participating in your ACR. Why not earn some high school credits for what they are already doing?!

If you’re interested, please see Capt Lemoine for more information, including the application and a FAQ sheet.

Summary

All attendees must check-in for all in-person activities using the Registration for In-Person Events form.
