What to expect when joining cadets?

  • Cadets meet on Monday evenings from 1830-2115h (6:30pm-915pm) for mandatory training nights and are encouraged to attend on Wednesday evenings for recreational and team building activities.
  • Cadets attend various weekend activities throughout the year such as Field Training Exercises, Area Directed Activities and Leadership Training.
  • Cadets participate in a variety of activities such as:
  • Flight Simulation, Gliding, Flying, Camping, Survival training, Music/Band, Aircraft Identification, Community Service, Drill, Sports and Fitness, Air Rifle Training, Navigation, Aerospace, Communication, Meteorology, Airport Operations, Effective Speaking, Cyber Security and more!
  • Cadets are peer led. As cadets advance through the program they gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to teach lessons and activities to newer cadets.
  • Some Cadets attend summer courses at cadet training centers across Canada.
  • Some Cadets have the opportunity to attend ground school and earn a Glider or Power Pilot license.

How to Become a cadet?

To become a cadet, all you need is an interest in the program, and the following:

  1. Proof of age: New members can join any time of the year once they reach their 12th birthday.
  2. Proof of legal Canadian residency: Any of the following document are acceptable
  • A valid Canadian passport;
  • A birth certificate issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal government agency;
  • Any card, visa or permit (work, study, resident, etc.) (with photo) issued by the Canadian government which legally authorizes the person to reside in Canada for an extended period of time; or
  • Any identification card (with or without photo) issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal government agency.
  1. Proof of health insurance: Provincial or Territorial health insurance card or private insurance card.

Please have these original documents with you when you attend the squadron.

To help speed up the registration process, you may wish to bring a photocopy of these documents as well.
