NOTL Christmas Parade

There are two important timings for the parade this weekend:

FRI 9 DEC @ 130pm – Parent helpers meet at CI & Mr. Ruttan’s house (across the road from the old NDSS on East & West Line), at 130pm to set-up the parade float. We anticipate the whole process will take approximately 1 hr – we have 4 people confirmed. 2 more would be ideal.

SAT 10 DEC @1015am – BRANCH 124 LEGION parking lot – all cadets to meet in their uniforms. Cadets are expected to attend and be a part of the marching unit. Give yourself extra time to get there on Sat morn – roads will already be closed off for parade access along Mary & Mississauga Sts at 10am.

The parade begins at 11am – but we need cadets out at our spot along the parade route by 1030am at the latest. We are #24. We anticipate we will be finished by 130pm. We will meet back at the Legion once we have completed the parade route. Please arrange to pick up your cadet there.

Dress is UNIFORM for all cadets (C3 – sweater, with parka, black gloves and toque). For select senior cadets dress will be as directed on Wed night. It will be COLD – wear clothing under your uniform as appropriate to keep warm.

This is an important event that gives the community of NOTL a sneak peak into the amazing program we call Air Cadets – please ensure our success by having your cadet attend.

Remembrance Week @ 809 Squadron

Each year 809 Squadron supports several local, community efforts to help our Veterans, Legion Members and Currently Serving Canadian Forces NCMs and Officers make Remembrance Day a true reflection of all we owe to those who have died in armed conflict across the world.

There are four main activities that we participate in the 7 days leading up to November 11:

  1. Poppy Sales: Saturday, 5 November 2016 10-12pm, 12-2pm (4 cadets) all spots filled
  2. Grace United Church Service: Sunday, 6 November 2016 service begins at 1030. Cadets are expected to arrive NLT 1015. Processional & Recessional carrying of flags, then seated for service. We need 4 cadets for this – please sign up ASAP – email Tammy.Palumbo@cadets.gc.ca or text 289-783-1942 with your cadets’ name)
  3. Remembrance Day Vigil: Cadets arrive on Thursday evening (regular cadet night timings – 630pm start) – arrive in CIVILIAN clothing, BRING UNIFORM – and stay overnight to begin the Cenotaph Guard of Honour at 7am. Cadets that are heading to their school to participate in Remembrance Day activities are still expected to join us for the overnight and to do a shift on the Cenotaph. They can be picked up by their parents by 830am. Can you donate a food item for the breakfast portion of the day? Mrs Mehrotra will be contacting you.
  4. Remembrance Day Parades: NOTL at the Clock Tower – 1045am. Guard of Honour, Colour Party for the Legion and Marching Unit. Queenston – 1245pm. Finishing with chili at the Legion. Cadets can be picked up by 230pm from the Legion on 410 King St NOTL.

Dress for each of these events is C-1 uniform. Wear the overcoat & liner if the temperature warrants it. Gloves and toque are also authorized.

CO’s Parade Wed Trg Night

This Wed marks our first CO’s parade of the training year. We will have regular training to start off the night, then end on the parade square for the final period. Parents are encouraged to come out and watch our cadets as they learn this important aspect of cadet training: squadron drill.  Cadets are encouraged to bring a friend – all levels!

Dress is C-1 for everyone – check the numbered ordered of dress under the cadet resources tab for the picture of what you are required to wear tomorrow night. New recruits: black pants, white shirt, black tie.

We will also (FINALLY!) be previewing the video from our rafting trip in June with the senior level 4,5,6 cadets. Come out and see how much fun you can have at 809 squadron!

Bravo Zulu!

A huge thank you to Lt Russell and the following cadets: Giansante, Gowans, Mehrotra, & Nicolescu, for representing 809 Sqn at the Decoration Day Parade in NOTL on Sunday for our title sponsor, Branch 124 Royal Canadian Legion.

By making yourselves available, you gave better visibility to our community about the many aspects of Cadet training: one of the most important being community service.

Cadets: please be sure to see Capt Palumbo to get signed off on your community service hours for high school requirement.

Santa Claus Day Parade

All the cadets that participated in the parade this morning were well received by the spectators lining the parade route this morning. Our float was fantastic! The first year for a float from 809 Sqn and thanks to CI Thiffault, Mr. Hendriks, Mr. Ruttan, Mrs. Burland, OCdt Couroux, and CI Ruttan it was a HUGE addition to our parade entry. Without their efforts our entry would not have been so impressive. Our only drawback was low attendance – only 14 of our 25 cadets attended this event. Cadets & Parents: please check the upcoming months on the website to make sure you can attend as many events as possible. We have more fun, and enjoy more rewards, when everyone works together. Those cadets that attended are reminded to hand-in their volunteer hour sheets for validation to Capt Palumbo. HINT: Log in to see the captions below the photos.
