Kit List for Fall FTX – Nov 23, 24 & 25

Here’s the kit list for the upcoming FTX.  Keep in mind that this is late November.  There will be chances of snow, rain and even freezing rain, so make sure you have the appropriate items to keep you dry and warm.

Make sure to include the following items, along with the items in the kit list mentioned further below.

  • waterproof – winter weight coat and pants,
  • Waterproof – winter weight boots – Not Shoes!.
  • Several pairs of socks
  • Water resistant gloves
  • Toque.

Note: For cold weather, it’s always better to dress in layers. If you get too warm, you can remove layers to prevent yourself from sweating.  Sweating will cause you to eventually get cold and uncomfortable.  Keeping yourself warm and dry will be essential to a safe and fun experience.

We’ll be sleeping in cabins this time around so it should make things more comfortable.  We’ll also be supplying CAF issued sleeping bags, so there’s no need to take this with you.  Remember! One cadet, one kit.  Make sure you can carry and keep track of your own belongings.

Here’s the kit list:

Aviation Training Weekend – The Return

Once again, the cadets of 809 Squadron had a fun, exciting, and educational weekend at the Cadet Youth Development Centre at the Waterloo Airport. We’re on our way home now with a bus load of tired cadets and a renewed enthusiasm for the aviation and aerospace aspects of our program.

Parents, we were a little bit behind schedule leaving the CYDC add expect to arrive at 809 HQ between 1820h (6:20pm) add 1830h (6:30pm) instead of our originally scheduled time.

Aviation Training Exercise

Per the instructions given on Wednesday, we will be meeting in front of 809’s HQ no later than 1815 (6:15pm) for a 1830 (6:30pm) departure. Make sure you have everything in the kit list with you, especially your health card.

We will be returning from the Cadet Youth Development Centre in Waterloo at approximately 1630 (4:30pm) on Sunday for an estimated return of 1800 (6:00pm) arrival. If there are unexpected changes to this, notification will given as soon as possible.

We’re gearing up for an amazing weekend with a few additional things that we didn’t experience last time. I hope everyone else is looking forward to it as much as I am!

Aviation Weekend Update (2)

The countdown to our Aviation Weekend is approaching zero! With only a little over 24 hours remaining, there are a few things that need to be reiterated.

  1. Allergies

If you have any allergies that require use of an epipen, ensure that you do not forget to bring it with you. We will be within range of a hospital, but are in a semi-rural area and the trip won’t necessarily be fast. Don’t take any risks. Bring your epipen.

  2. Snacks

Because we have cadets with allergies to peanuts and tree nuts, cadets are asked to ensure that any snacks they bring with them are nut-free.

  3. Games!

We’re devoting one night of entertainment to a game night. Bring a deck of cards and your favourite board game with you. I’ll be bringing a few of my favourites myself.

Remember, the bus leaves on Friday night at 6:30pm. Aim to be at the squadron building for 6:00pm, 6:15pm at the absolute latest.

We’re looking forward to an exciting weekend. See you there!
